SUN II Partners Leverage TEDx Platform to Inspire Action and Drive Collective Solutions for Nutrition in Zambia

Lusaka, Zambia, 29 April 2025 -TEDxLusaka will hold its first ever TEDxLusakaWomen event on 24 May 2025, with the theme “Further, Together”, celebrating the African proverb: “If you want to go fast, go alone, if you want to go far, go together’. TEDxLusaka aims to share ideas that can solve challenges within the community and contribute to its advancement, focusing largely on ideas from women. To support this goal, the organisation is partnering with the Scaling Up Nutrition Phase 2 (SUN II) Programme which aims to reduce stunting among children in Zambia, as well as maternal undernutrition.

As the SUN II programme under Zambia’s Most Critical Days Programme Phase II (MCDP II) comes to its conclusion this year, it will leverage the TEDxLusakaWomen event to communicate key evidence and advocate for transformative approaches to nutrition. The event will also serve to highlight the programme’s main achievements.

TEDx, a grassroots initiative aligned with TED’s mission to spread “ideas worth spreading,” offers an ideal platform to reach a broader audience — including public and private sector partners, community leaders, and the general public, fostering deeper understanding of the critical issues surrounding nutrition and sustainable development. The TEDxLusakaWomen event will provide a dynamic and engaging space to facilitate meaningful conversations and collaboration among stakeholders, driving collective action towards improving nutrition outcomes in Zambia.

On Saturday, 24 May, the 2025 TEDxLusakaWomen event will be held at the Zambian-Italian Cultural Centre from 09 hours to 16 hours and will include lunch for all participants. Tickets are on sale for K250 on the BGS WhatsApp Chatbot: https://wa.me/message/E57X5FLL5BOXH1

The event will feature an engaging line-up of speakers and performers all sharing solutions to issues that arise in our communities. Speakers will be announced in the weeks leading up to the event.

“This nutrition programme has ignited a wave of transformation in Zambia, uniting key stakeholders to tackle the fundamental causes of young child stunting and maternal undernutrition. As we reach the culmination of this impactful journey, we proudly elevate the voices of women and communities who are championing innovative solutions for improved nutrition. This collaboration with TEDxLusakaWomen showcases the extraordinary power of shared knowledge and collective action. At UNICEF, we remain steadfast in our commitment to nurturing sustainable development, ensuring that every Zambian child thrives and has the opportunity to reach their full potential,” said Dr Penelope Campbell, UNICEF Zambia Representative.

The SUN II Programme in Zambia is a 5-year initiative led by UNICEF in partnership with the National Food and Nutrition Commission, line ministries, other UN agencies, and non-governmental organizations, supported by the European Union, German Cooperation implemented by KfW, the Swedish international development cooperation agency (Sida) and UK Aid.

Although this is the first ever TEDxLusakaWomen, TEDxLusaka has held conferences in Lusaka since 2011. All videos of previous speakers can be viewed on YouTube.
